Thus, in the case of events, all the components on the grid that sense the fault signal send an alert to the closest devices upstream, allowing only those that are closest to act.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, logic selectivity allows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Making processes for restoration of the network more agile after faults occur;<\/li><li>Increasing the selectivity of the protection systems;<\/li><li>Avoiding unnecessary cutoffs of electrical clients not directly affected by a fault;<\/li><li>Avoiding the unnecessary cutoff of clients because of a failure in the coordination and selectivity of the action of protective equipment;<\/li><li>Automatically conducting actions directly in the field on the protective devices.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, it is important to note that logical selectivity is different than chronological selectivity, which is still the most common in current systems. Thus, the adaptation seeks to maintain the protection suitably sensitive to the system with rapid action during seasonal load variations, even in cases of substantial increase in generation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A network equipment is configured to set a maximum limit on consumer load. When this amount is surpassed, the system protection is activated. Yet these amounts are highly variable, which can lead electrical utilities to interpret any change, such as an increase or drop in consumption in a certain period, as a fault.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, if these parameters are not reviewed after considerable changes in the grid \u2013 such as eventual expansions \u2013 the protection can operate without sensitivity or selectivity, generating problems caused by improper actions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adaptive protection makes use of historical data to estimate the parameters for protection, with the goal of minimizing the impacts of load variations considered to be normal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, adaptive protection allows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increasing the sensitivity of the protective system;<\/li><li>Daily evaluation of the status of the network and updates on the protection parameters;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Avoiding cutting off electrical clients who are not directly affected by a fault;<\/li><li>Avoiding improper cutoffs of clients because of changes of profile of the load on the grid;<\/li><li>Making changes directly in the field to the protective devices.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Self-Healing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of self-healing is to restore a portion of a system in the case of faults.
