CERTI is an EMBRAPII unit, accredited to work in the Intelligent Systems field, which allows RD&I projects to have up to 33% of their total cost subsidized. The sub-areas of operation in Intelligent Systems are: Mechatronic Systems, Intelligent System Software and Manufacturing Systems.
EMBRAPII (the Brazilian Association for Industrial Research and Innovation) was created with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Education. It was conceived to foster cooperation between science and technology research institutions and industrial companies.

LAW 8.248/91 – BRAZIL’S COMPUTER SCIENCE LAW
INTENDED FOR: Companies that produce in Brazil computer equipment listed in Decree N° 5.906/06 of 26/09/2006. According to the Computer Science Law (Law 8.248), companies that invest in RD&I in computer and automation goods can receive a reduction of up to 95% on industrialized product import tariffs (IPI) as an incentive to R&D for the product.
The incentive is limited to hardware;
Accreditation from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT/Sepin) is required to participate;
Companies that receive the incentive must make an investment in product R&D equal to 4% of their annual sales of incentivized products;
Companies may make use of resources from the IPI throughout the year.
LAW 11.196/2005 – LAW FOR THE GOOD
INTENDED FOR: Companies in any sector that make investments in research and development in technological innovation, use the “Real Profit” tax scheme and have taxable profit during the year.
The opportunity to deduct the amount spent on RD&I projects conducted with science, technology and innovation institutions, when calculating net profit;
Reduction of up to 50% of industrial product taxes (IPI) due for the purchase of R&D equipment;
Decrease in the base for calculating IRPJ and CSLL [taxes on corporate income and net profits];
Leveraging of company growth;
Enhancing R&D results by working with universities and science, technology and innovation institutions.
